What is a Canadian Study Permit?

To study in Canada for more than six months, East African students require a Canadian Study Permit (student visa). This document is issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and must be obtained before you travel.

Documents Required

A complete study permit application must include:

  • Valid passport (minimum 6 months validity beyond your intended stay)
  • Letter of Acceptance from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI)
  • Proof of financial support (minimum CAD 10,000 for the first year plus tuition)
  • Statement of Purpose explaining your reasons for choosing Canada
  • Academic transcripts and certificates
  • Evidence of ties to your home country
  • Biometrics (fingerprints and photograph)

Processing Times

Canadian study permit processing times for East African applicants vary between 4 and 12 weeks depending on the time of year. We recommend applying at least 3 months before your intended course start date.

Common Refusal Reasons

The most frequent reasons for study permit refusals include insufficient financial proof, weak ties to the home country, and an unconvincing Statement of Purpose. Our 98% visa success rate comes from addressing every one of these factors comprehensively.
